How to Do Cable Front Raise
Form Cues
- 1
Set the pulley to the lowest position, grip the handle with one or both hands, raise your arm straight forward to shoulder height with a slight elbow bend
- 2
Keep the cable taut at the bottom — unlike dumbbells, the cable loads the anterior delt from the very start of the movement
- 3
Keep your torso still, avoiding a backward lean to help the weight up
- 4
Lower with control, resisting the weight stack the whole way back down
Common Mistakes
- ●
Raising above shoulder height — the anterior delt finishes its work at shoulder level; going higher shifts load to the trap and increases impingement risk
- ●
Using momentum or body swing instead of a slow, isolated raise
- ●
Using too much weight, which forces the torso to lean back and recruit other muscles
Equipment Variations
- ▸
Dumbbell front raise as direct substitute
- ▸
Barbell front raise for bilateral loading
