How to Do Cable Pullover
Video guide coming soon
Form Cues
- 1
Set cable high, stand or kneel facing away, grip rope or bar overhead with slight elbow bend, pull down and forward in an arc feeling the lat stretch at the top
- 2
Keep core braced and arms nearly straight throughout the entire arc
- 3
Keep a fixed, slight bend in the elbows — this is a fly-like arc, not a pulldown
- 4
Squeeze the lats at the bottom before returning slowly to the stretch
Common Mistakes
- ●
Bending the elbows too much — this turns it into a tricep pushdown, keep arms nearly straight to maximize the lat and chest stretch through the full arc
- ●
Using too much weight, which shortens the range of motion and turns it into a partial-range pull
- ●
Letting the ribcage flare up during the pull — keep the core braced to protect the lower back
Equipment Variations
- ▸
Dumbbell pullover on bench for similar movement pattern
- ▸
Straight arm lat pulldown as cable alternative
