How to Do Dumbbell Floor Press
Form Cues
- 1
Keep elbows at 45 degrees from torso, not flared out
- 2
Press through the full range until arms are fully extended
- 3
Let your upper arms rest on the floor at the bottom — that's your natural depth limit, no need to force further
- 4
Drive dumbbells up and slightly in, finishing over your chest not your shoulders
Common Mistakes
- ●
Letting elbows flare out to 90 degrees — puts unnecessary stress on the shoulder joint
- ●
Using so much weight that the shoulder blades lift off the floor — keep them pinned throughout for a stable base
- ●
Rushing the bottom position — pause briefly where the triceps touch the floor instead of bouncing out of it
Equipment Variations
- ▸
Use a resistance band anchored under your back as an alternative
- ▸
Try kettlebells if dumbbells are unavailable
