How to Do Dumbbell Woodchop
Form Cues
- 1
Rotate through the torso, keep arms mostly straight
- 2
Generate power from the hips not the arms
- 3
Pivot your back foot as you rotate to allow the hips to fully turn
- 4
Finish with the dumbbell high on the opposite side, following through with your whole body
Common Mistakes
- ●
Bending the arms too much — reduces rotational power and makes it an arm exercise instead of core
- ●
Keeping the feet planted flat and only twisting the shoulders — the rotation should travel through the hips too
- ●
Using too much weight, forcing a slow, muscled swing instead of a fast, controlled rotation
Equipment Variations
- ▸
Cable woodchop for constant tension
- ▸
Medicine ball slam for explosive variation
